Another Vintage Dress that needs "adjustment" (2025)
I picked up this dress at a cute little vintage place in Pensacola on our trip to the Keys: Rocket to Saturn. The owner was so nice, and she had some great stuff. As with most clothes that are from the 60's, the arm-holes are TINY! The neckline is a bit high as well...but I could not resist...I thought if I bought it and made some adjustments, maybe I could wear this to our fall wedding in Hawaii.
I started by comparing the openings with other tops that already fit me:
This helped me baste the new openings, remove the current armhole binding/lining, and cut away excess fabric:
I save really random pieces of fabric. This was an old pillowcase, and will make nice new armholes!
Voila!
The dress was also a tad bit too short, and with the extra material in the original hem, plus some new hem tape, I was able to lengthen a bit.
Here are the finished comparisons...I think it'll be ok to wear to the wedding!
