Old Leather Bag - New Lining (2024)
In 2006, for our 15th anniversary, we took a trip to Italy with our friends Vivian & Roland. On that trip I purchased a beautiful leather bag from a school that teaches the art of working with leather and hide, Scuola del Cuoio.
After MANY years of use, the lining began to "disintegrate" and shed on the things I would put inside, so I decided to try to replace the lining.
I have boxes of scrap fabric from my years of saving excess from other projects, purchasing, and inheriting. The fabric I chose to use was a remnant I bought in Oahu on our 2013 trip, along with a scrap from some quilts I made for the boys.
First thing I had to do was cut the lining out of the bag.
...and then I created a pattern.
The original bag had 2 sets of pockets (one side had a zipper), I decided to go simple and just stick to one basic pocket.
Here is the lining sewn together inside out - the white part is interfacing that I used to help make the fabric stronger.
I decided to hand sew the lining into the bag so that I could have more control and accuracy...also hand sewing can be very therapeutic.
Finished product, ready to use again!
